2003 Cooperator of the Year: Jack and Mary Clucas

The recipients of the Cooperator of the Year award for 2003 were Jack & Mary Clucas, who have been a great help to the District over not a small number of years. The Clucas’ were given a plaque with “Outstanding Cooperator of the Year 2003” and their names engraved on it.
Jack & Mary Clucas were both raised in the Shell area of the Big Horns. They have owned and operated a ranch on Shell Creek for more than 30 years. They have always been supporters of good conservation practices and water development.
Both have served at different times on the South Big Horn Conservation District Board of supervisors. The District was known as the Soil Conservation Service at the time of their assistance.
The couple was instrumental in the rehabilitation and enlargement of Lake Adelaide for Shell Valley. Both encourage Youth Range & Conservation Programs and 4-H. Jack is presently a Board member on the Shell Valley Watershed District, serves on the local land owner Water Quality Steering Committee and is active in state water planning.
