1995 Cooperator of the Year: Charles Fritz Farm

Charles Fritz was born in Worland, Wyoming. Except for a tour in the army and when working for USDA he has lived all of his life on the Fritz family farm in the southern most part of Big Horn County. The people and the view close to the mountains keep him here in the Basin. His ancestors came from Germany and Missouri. Charles is a 3rd generation operator of the Fritz farm and his Father has been there for 87 years. Charles likes to raise crops and cattle. He says “I guess it’s in my blood”.
The Fritz family is interested in all types of soil and water conservation. They have applied grass water ways, a sprinkler system, gated and underground pipe to their operation. They say that they use water more efficiently now and have saved on labor and time. The practices have also helped them produce more crops per acre.
Charles Fritz believes that there is no better occupation than farming and ranching. Times aren’t as good right now but he claims that with the increase in population there will be a bigger demand for farm products and better times to come. He says he sees himself still farming 20 years down the road.
